Paul Hildreth -Director of Fulton County Schools Safety and Security

On Monday, October 31st, the Rotary Club of Sandy Springs had the pleasure of hearing Paul Hildreth speak about his role as Director of Safety and Security in Fulton County Schools.

Hildreth started his presentation by asking a question, "If you had to fight for your life tomorrow....how hard would you train today?" This questions frames the mindset that Hildreth and his team wake up with every day to continue to keep Fulton County schools safe and secure

Hildreth reviewed a few of the many tools his team uses to keep campuses safe:

  1. Tip Line:  See it. Hear it. And Report it Every Time explains the thought behind the S.H.A.R.E Tip Line that is accessible to students, faculty, and the public to report school threats, weapons, violence, bullying, drugs, self-harm, or any other school safety suspicions or concerns. The Tip Line is anonymous and all students and faculty have access to it directly on their computers. Tip's can also be reported at https://www.fultonschools.org/fcstipline
  2. Cameras: Cameras throughout all Fulton County Schools allow for 24/7 surveillance and also aid security personnel and Police in the event that there is a threat.
  3. Safety Assessments: The Safety Team is constantly conducting assessments on all aspects of safety and security on school campuses including everything from doors that might not be closing/locking correctly, to cleaning solution bottles that may be missing a label or not stored properly.
  4. Drills: Each month schools are required to conduct safety drills to prepare for the event that there ever is a threat. Drills include: soft lockdowns, hard lockdowns, evacuation, and shelter.

Hildreth closed by explaining how they are always learning from current events and refining their security plans to combat the ever changing threats that put the safety and security of Fulton County Schools at risk.

Thank you for the informative presentation and for all you do for the Students, Faculty, and Staff of Fulton County School Paul!

RCSS Firehouse Dinners

On November 1, 2, and 3 the Rotary Club of Sandy Springs served dinners to the Firefighters and Police Officers of Sandy Springs at the new Sandy Springs Fire Station No. 2. This is an annual event the Rotary Club of Sandys Springs enjoys doing to show appreciation and support for the Firefighters and Police Officers of Sandy Springs.

Good food, good discussions, and tours of the sparkling new facility were part of the fare each night.

Assistant Governor of Rotary District 6900 and RCSS member Will MacArthur coordinated the service project and was pleased with the turnout of volunteering Rotarians and amount of Firefighters and Police that were served.

Meals were donated by 3 local Sandy Springs Restaurants:

  • Chapman's Cafe - 5920 Roswell Rd #205, Sandy Springs, GA 30328 chapmanscafe.com

  • Brooklyn Cafe - 220 Sandy Springs Cir, Atlanta, GA 30328 https://brooklyncafe.com/

  • Johnny's New York Style Pizza - 7887 A, Roswell Rd, Sandy Springs, GA 30350 https://johnnyspizza.com/location/sandy-springs/

Rotarians including: Will MacArthur, Jim Squire, John Neill, Zac Boswell, Jay Brackman, Julie Bernath, Joe Jones, Steve Money and Ashley Napier showed up to help out with the event.

Concerts for Senior Citizens at Somerby Assisted Living

Linda Randolph with the direction of Gene Jordan, RCSS Community Service Chair, arranged the Instrumental Group of students at North Springs High School to preform a special concert to the residents of Somerby Assisted Living.

Under direction of their teacher, Mrs. Dinovic, and with the leadership of the music club officer, Kiera Barrett, the Tri-M Student Musical Group performed a selection of Jazz numbers at Somerby Assisted Living facility in Sandy Springs on the afternoon of November 1st.

The group was composed of 4 students playing an electric guitar, Alto Saxophone, drums, and bass.

The Rotary Club of Sandy Springs is providing a pizza party for these Students later this month to thank them for their service to the Senior citizens in our community.
