At Work for Our Rotary Foundation
Remember the Crazy Rotarian Jogging Across Death Valley?

Alert Medicare!

Last month, Roswell Rotarian Lee Hollingsworth jogged across Badwater Basin in Death Valley, the lowest, hottest place in North America— at age 70 - all in the name of PolioPlus and literacy! It's his goal to raise $15,000 for these two Rotary causes - and he has $5,000 committed in matching dollars if he can raise an additional $10,000. Read on to find out more about the projects and how you can help.

What started as a personal challenge has become a mission: To raise $15,000 for two Rotary causes all of us believe in:

  • 50% to PolioPlus – finishing the fight to eradicate polio
  • 50% to a Global Grant for Kibeam literacy tools – voice-guided projectors that help K–3 children learn to read in underserved communities

A $5,000 challenge match has already been committed: conditional on raising an additional $10,000.  There is a $1,000 minimum Foundation donation, and the donors and THEIR clubs get the credit. It helps Foundation directors meet their PolioPlus and annual fund commitments!

Whether you’re an individual Rotarian or a group with a single club, a pledge will directly support this bold—and hot—effort.
No money is needed today—just your pledge.

Lee said, “Some run from the heat. I’m running into it—for children that may never run anywhere. To be served the gift of knowledge the way all Rotarians have at one time been led."
