In August, the Roswell Rotary Club honored
Hometown Heroes with the Roswell Police Department in two different ways.
Officer Thomas Chandler was recognized for his heroic action in stopping a wrong-way drunk driver on GA 400 in August
2024. Officer Chandler positioned his
patrol vehicle in the path of the oncoming car preventing a potentially
catastrophic head-on- collision. His actions saved lives including the driver
who ended up being treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The driver was then arrested for DUI, driving
on the wrong side of the roadway and numerous other charges. “Officer Chandler’s bravery in this incident amplifies
the dedication and courage of the men and women who work daily to protect and
serve the Roswell community,” Chief James Conroy, Roswell Police Department.
Later in August, 40+
Roswell Rotarians proudly joined over 700 total participants in the Officer
Jeremy Labonte 5k Run. Hosted by the
Tunnels to Towers organization, this community activity raised awareness for Officer
Labonte’s ultimate sacrifice and collected funds for his family. He was killed in the line of duty responding
to a suspicious person call in February of this year. He had
been with Roswell PD for three years.
Roswell Rotary is proud to recognize a Hometown Hero each
month for the 2025-26 Rotary Year. Focus
for our Hometown Hero recognition is on Veterans, First Responders and
Teachers.
