by Bob Hagan, District Foundation Chair
As I
enter year two of as District 6900 Foundation Chair, I find I have
really fallen in love with quotes. The Founding Fathers of Rotary have said many,
not only memorable things, but they have also really left us with impactful
thoughts within quotes, and I find myself truly inspired by their words. I want
to give you one of them that was delivered by 1916-1917 Rotary President, Arch
Klumph as he spoke on the impact of The Foundation.
“The Rotary Foundation is not to build monuments of brick and stone. If we work upon marble, it will perish; if we work on brass, time will efface it; if we rear temples, they will crumble into dust; but if we imbue them with the full meaning of the spirit of Rotary ... we are engraving on those tables something that will brighten all eternity.”
Some pretty powerful words with great meaning behind them and they were written, actually spoken, before the world of “AI”. Arch wrote and then delivered them all on his own. They truly move me to think on the topic of how I can better impact the work we do within Rotary itself and our District 6900 specifically. One way we can have an on-going impact after we depart from our time here is to consider leaving a legacy to Rotary in our will. We write them for our families as we should, but I wonder how many of us have thought about leaving a sum to The Rotary Foundation Endowment? Did you know that August was “National Make-a-Will Month”? It’s easy to miss it as it seems almost every day has become a special day for something. I can’t honestly say I took notice of it myself, had it not been for a mention of it in some of our Rotary publications.
Did you know that there are tools out there to help you start some estate planning. As a Rotary member you have the ability to access a tool called, “FreeWill” designed to help you do your planning.
Let’s face it, we all want to do good things for our families after we have gone through this journey called life. Why not do so for The Foundation as well. Not only are you doing good now, but you’ll also continue doing good after you have gone. Definitely worth thinking on…
